I know this post is 2.5 years old, but I stumbled upon it looking for an XMPP microblogging solution, and found this as a result.

IdentiChat is awesome, and I’ve had many discussions with the main developer. He’s even in my Jabber roster. However, I have three issues with IdentiChat:

1) As already mentioned, you must send prosody.im your login credentials, which may not exist for OpenID users.
2) There is no way to setup your own IdentiChat server with Prosody. He hasn’t built that into the code yet.
3) There is no way to send @-replies to the proper post to keep things in contextual threads. Rather, your @-reply will be a reply to the user’s latest notice, whether intended or not.

Other than that, IdentiChat is awesome. Too bad that identi.ca can’t keep a stable XMPP server.

Yes, that’s bad security for one thing; and for those who use OpenID precisely so they don’t *have* a separate identi.ca password, it makes identichat unusable.
